Bibo - Treatment of bilge water on borad of bilge drainage boats
The project includes the chemical characterization of bilge water as well as preliminary laboratory tests for possible "on-board" treatment methods and will be carried out between June 2021 and the beginning of December 2021. The investigations should form the basis for a technical concept development for bilge drainage boats. At the beginning, an inventory of the current bilge water or bilge oil treatment is carried out, including through inspections. The visits serve to take stock of previous treatment technologies and operating modes, to view and evaluate operating data and to obtain representative water samples. The previous treatment processes, consisting of oil separation by gravity separation in combination with ultrafiltration or flocculation and flotation, are sampled at relevant points. The bilge drainage boats to be sampled are selected in such a way that a sufficient number of all treatment techniques currently in use are recorded.
This cross-sectional study for chemical wastewater characterization is carried out by the ISA in order to obtain the most comprehensive possible picture of the bilge oil problem. The basic applicability of various wastewater treatment technologies to the complex and very heterogeneous bilge water matrix should be checked in orienting laboratory tests (e.g. adsorption, oxidation, precipitation, filtration).
