The 2023 water management field trip of the ISA and IWW took place again this year from May 29 to June 2, 2023. Various destinations on the topic of hydraulic engineering and (urban) water treatment/management were visited in southern Germany and Switzerland. Great thanks go to the sponsoring associations of the ISA as well as IWW for their financial support.

The participating students were introduced to different companies and projects. On the morning of May 29th (Monday), the first stop was Karlsruhe (visit of the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering (BAW)). After a relaxed barbecue evening and an overnight stay in Lörrach, the next day was spent visiting the drinking water supply plants and facilities of the city of Basel, as well as those of the city of Zurich. In addition, the students were able to gain insight into the research work of the FHNW (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz). After an overnight stay in Zurich, the Werdhölzli wastewater treatment plant was visited on Wednesday (May 31), followed by a visit to the project/construction site for extended flood protection in Zurich, as well as the alluvial rake. On Thursday, the pumped storage power plant Etzelwerk of the SBB was visited. Afterward, our bus was already heading north again (with a short photo and break stop at the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen). After an overnight stay in Stuttgart, the last destination: the BASF wastewater treatment plant in Ludwigshafen, was reached the next morning. Finally, after interesting and impressive days, we were already heading back to Aachen.
