Abstract
In the present work, the effects of the expansion of a wastewater treatment plant with an ozonation plant for the removal of micropollutants from the wastewater were investigated. The aim of the work was in particular to evaluate the benefits for the water body resulting from the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant. For this evaluation, especially micropollutant loads, but also the estrogenic potential as well as indices of the status assessment of the water body were investigated from a scientific and engineering point of view. For the evaluation of the micropollutants, a tool was developed to determine representative indicator subtances. The results were evaluated for a business and economic benefit assessment in a multi-criteria analysis following the approach of "The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity" (TEEB). In addition, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted. Thus, an overarching, integrated approach was used to quantify the benefits of the ozone facility to the aquatic environment.
